Editor's note: This special audio report is part of The Dallas Morning News' monthlong series on how fentanyl has affected our community. Writer Maggie Prosser discusses the story of Carrollton's R.L. Turner High School, which has become a symbol for the drug epidemic in North Texas. Fentanyl is not just an R.L. Turner problem, or a Carrollton problem, or a North Texas problem: Nationwide, the drug was involved in more than three-quarters of adolescent overdose deaths in 2021, and a quarter of cases involved fake pills.
